TAKORADI, GHANA — The Sekondi-Takoradi chapter of the Infrastructure Transparency Initiative (CoST) has honoured two local government assemblies for their exceptional commitment to openness, public accountability, and good governance in public project delivery. The awards were presented on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, during the official launch and dissemination of the 3rd Independent Review Process (IRP) Report at Akroma Plaza in Takoradi.
The ceremony highlighted municipal and district procuring entities that have demonstrated leadership in adhering to global transparency benchmarks across the project delivery lifecycle.
The two assemblies distinguished themselves during the independent multi-district assessment:
- Wassa East District Assembly (WEDA) – Best Performing Procuring Entity: Conferred in recognition of achieving the highest overall performance score in the 3rd Independent Review. WEDA demonstrated overall excellence across critical assessment areas, including infrastructure governance, data publication and disclosure, institutional transparency, and ensuring value for money in project execution.
- Shama Municipal Assembly (SMA) – Special Recognition Award for Excellence in Proactive Publication: Awarded in recognition of its outstanding commitment to the proactive disclosure of project information. SMA adhered closely to the CoST Infrastructure Data Standard (IDS), setting a benchmark for public access to information and institutional responsiveness.
The 3rd IRP assessed 28 infrastructure projects across all 14 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Western Region. Stakeholders noted that recognizing top-tier assemblies fosters healthy institutional competition and encourages local procuring entities to routinely publish critical project data.
Representatives from both Wassa East and Shama assemblies reaffirmed their dedication to open contracting, emphasizing that transparent procurement directly translates into more durable infrastructure and stronger community trust.
